A good technique to maintain mental acuity is to express ourselves through writing. Otherwise we passively consume content, and the brain rots. The internet nowadays is worse than sitting in front of the idiot tube watching whatever comes on, because the content delivery just wrecks the attention span mechanism.
But mainly, I write so that I can recall. It’s really quite interesting to read what I used to think, since I hardly remember things from the past. Even works that I myself spent days and weeks on, revising and polishing, I can read and feel it’s almost new. That’s something that I’ll take as a good thing.
So this blog is basically a way for me to maintain both a functioning brain, and also to preserve images of myself, snapshots of my mind, that would otherwise fade away and even I myself would never realize the loss.
I once wrote something like, if we are the sum of our experiences and memory makes us who we are, what am I if I don’t really have much memory?
